Spooky Tots – a trio comprising Vivi the Vampire, Mike the Mummy and Craig the Monster. I wanted to create quick, fun items that weren’t scary but had a Halloween feel. I pictured them as a similar shape to potato tots (tater tots or potato gems depending on where in the world you are!) and they are a great size for little hands.
Enjoy and get creative! I’ve seen mini versions and others made into fridge magnets.
Difficulty: Intermediate, US terminology
Materials:
2.75mm hook/C-2 (US)
8ply yarns/DK or Light Worsted
Less than 50g yarn in each colour
BLACK yarn or thread to embroider
7.5mm safety eyes (3 pairs)
Scissors
Tapestry needle
Polyester toy stuffing
Stitch marker (optional)
Notes:
Amigurumi is usually stitched in the round and a yarn with no stretch is best.
When changing colour, pull through new colour on the last stitch of the row prior.
Generally, the hook you use for amigurumi will be a smaller than for other crochet as you want the stitches tight.
The yarn thickness and hook size used will affect the size of the finished item. My Spooky Tots are approximately 11cm tall (4 inches).
I have used plastic safety eyes but you may choose to embroider. Please ensure that there are no loose fittings.
